Best Deadlock heroes for placement matches

Placements are 8 solo matches, and each one weighs more than a regular game. Below is a live list of the best heroes by win rate for every rank range, plus a simple rule for picking your own 2–3 heroes for those 8 games.

The one rule: your win rate beats the meta

Placements are won by the hero you win on, not by the strongest hero of the patch. Each of the 8 matches weighs more than a regular game, so learning a new hero during placements is the most expensive way to lose your starting rank. Check your own hero stats first, then compare them with the table below: the ideal placement hero sits in your personal top and in the top of your rank range.

How to build a 2–3 hero pool

  1. Your main: the hero with your highest win rate and at least a couple dozen matches, so one lucky streak does not fool you.
  2. A backup with a different role or style: the enemy can take your main, and solo queue gives you no way to coordinate picks in advance.
  3. A third from the top of your rank range in the table above — only if you have already played it and it clicks.
  4. Skip any hero you have fewer than 10 matches on, even if it sits in S tier.

Why solo queue matters for your picks

Placements cannot be played in a party: the party queue stays locked until the eighth match. You cannot lean on a duo partner, so pick heroes that swing games on their own — ones that hold a lane without help and show up to fights at the right time. Anything that only works with a coordinated partner can wait until after placements.

Read your rank range, not the overall tier list

An all-ranks tier list blends every skill level together, and the best heroes differ from one rank range to the next — the table above shows it. Placements top out at Oracle VI, so read the row for your previous rank: those are the players you will meet in your 8 games. The full tier list with a rank switch is on the heroes page.

Питання та відповіді

What is the best hero for placements in Deadlock?

The one you have the highest win rate on. For heroes with strong stats in your rank range, check the live table on this page — it refreshes every 12 hours.

Should I learn a new hero during placements?

Better not: each of the 8 matches weighs more than a regular game. Learn new heroes in regular matches before the season starts or after placements.

How many heroes should I bring to placements?

Two or three: a main and backups in case your main is taken. Playing one hero for all 8 games is fine if it is your best.

Where does the hero win rate data come from?

From open deadlock-api statistics: 14 days of matches, split by the match's average rank. Heroes with fewer than 300 matches are left out.
