How to install a Deadlock mod

Five minutes and a text editor. Or a mod manager that does it all for you.

Option 1 · mod manager

Easiest: a mod manager

Deadlock Mod Manager is free and open source: it edits the game files, then installs, toggles and updates mods from GameBanana. The “Install with Mod Manager” button on every mod page hands the mod straight to the app.

Option 2 · by hand, five minutes

Manually

  1. Open the game folder: Steam → Deadlock → right-click → Manage → Browse local files. Then go to game\citadel.
  2. Create an addons folder inside citadel if it is not there yet.
  3. Open game\citadel\gameinfo.gi in a text editor, find the SearchPaths block and add Game citadel/addons as the first line inside it. Save.
  4. Download the mod from GameBanana and unzip it. Rename the .vpk file to pak01_dir.vpk (the next mod is pak02_dir.vpk and so on) and put it in addons.
  5. Restart the game. If two mods change the same hero, the one with the lower number wins.

Mods gone after a game update? The patch may have overwritten gameinfo.gi - add the Game citadel/addons line again. To remove a mod, delete its file from addons.

Can mods get you banned

Valve has no official rules on mods. Skins and HUD changes are visible only to you and there have been no ban waves for them, but Valve gives no guarantees - install at your own risk. Skip mods that give an in-game advantage.

How do I install the Lilith Over Drifter skin?
Press Install - the skin goes to Deadlock Mod Manager, which downloads the file and enables the mod. Without the manager: download the file on GameBanana, rename it to pak01_dir.vpk and put it in game\citadel\addons - step by step in the guide on this page.
Will other players see the Lilith Over Drifter skin?
No. The mod changes the Drifter model only in your game - teammates and enemies see the default hero.
The skin stopped working after a patch - what now?
Most often the update overwrote gameinfo.gi: add the Game citadel/addons line again. If the patch changed the Drifter model, wait for the author to update the skin on GameBanana.
