The DeCursed Apple

The DeCursed Apple makes cosmetic changes to selected signs, graffiti and symbols in Deadlock, keeping the game's visual style while introducing positive spiritual references.

Choose your edition

Standard Apple 1.0.22: the original signs, graffiti and symbol edits on the current Midtown map. This is the main download.

Visual Refresh 1.0.1 WIP (optional, Apple included): an ongoing visual refresh with warmer glowing windows, refreshed Oracle frontage and varied smaller bricks, road and pavement material work, low mist and moving ground streaks across Midtown, and compatible architectural details. Work in progress: visuals, coverage and tuning may change between releases.

Both editions use the updated Midtown map and retain Valve's rebuilt Curiosity Shop and Apothecary areas. Enable one edition only. Visual Refresh already includes Apple; do not stack both VPKs.

Apple changes included in both editions

• Hideout matchmaking table: a new six-tier geometric diagram, faithfully traced from the supplied original without letter labels. Its main triangle meets the outer circle, preserving the regular and ranked tablecloth colors and glow.
• Stock Exchange: 666 becomes 999, 21 becomes 28, standalone 6 becomes 7, 301 becomes 304, and SACRIFICE becomes RESURRECT. Original game glyphs are reused.
• Campus graffiti: VERITAS VOS LIBERABIT in a marker-style treatment.
• Black Altar sign: LUX AETERNA / DIAMOND POLISH, preserving its period style.
• Fairfax statue: subtle, centered LUX INTUS lettering with a carved finish.
• Talisman sign: upright crosses and three 7s replacing the three 6s.
• Existing edits retained: upward-pointing stars on both Salt & Chalk signs, the rotated Amber shrine emblem, upright Warlock graffiti pentagram, rotated Basic Magazine badge, and upright Mystic Reach pentagram.

The original white circular wall mark is preserved. The two poster edits are included in a shared texture atlas; their placement in the current map has not been confirmed.

Installation

1. Close Deadlock and disable older Apple, Salt & Chalk, Upward Symbols and Atmosphere/Visual Refresh map packages in Grimoire.
2. Choose Standard Apple 1.0.22 or the optional Visual Refresh 1.0.1 WIP download. Extract the ZIP and import its VPK through Grimoire's local-mod import, or choose the matching GameBanana file if your client exposes file choices.
3. Enable one edition, restart Deadlock, and check it in a private match. Visual Refresh already includes Apple.

Compatibility

Both current downloads use the updated Midtown map and passed offline map, resource and dependency checks for Deadlock build 26118388 on 21 October 2026. Both editions have been confirmed working in private matches. Valve's rebuilt shop areas and current collision/navigation are retained. Standard Apple 1.0.22 refreshes 10 changed prop groups while keeping its artwork unchanged.

These packages contain a replacement Midtown map archive, which accounts for their size. Other map-replacement addons can conflict, and future map updates may require another refresh. Visual Refresh is a work in progress; no performance improvement is promised. To uninstall, disable the addon in Grimoire and restart Deadlock.
