What the rules actually say
Deadlock's own rules contain no clause about boosting. What applies is the general Steam Subscriber Agreement: the account owner may not reveal the password or let others use the account, and the owner answers for everything that happens on it. Piloted boosting — where a booster signs in to your account — contradicts that clause. Duo boosting and coaching do not: nobody but you ever plays on the account.
| Format | Account sharing | Contradicts the Steam agreement |
|---|---|---|
| Piloted: a booster plays on your account | yes | yes |
| Duo: you play yourself, in a party with a booster | no | no |
| Coaching: replay reviews and voice sessions | no | no |
| Cheats and third-party software | n/a | yes — and that is a VAC ban, no exceptions |
What is known about bans as of September 2026
- The official ban thread on the Deadlock forums talks only about cheating. It also introduced chain bans: accounts invited into the playtest by a banned cheater get banned along with them.
- Smurfing has been added as a report reason. Reports of smurf account blocks surfaced in autumn 2025, but there is no sign of it becoming mass practice.
- In May 2026 a developer going by Yoshi confirmed on Discord that the team had experimented with detecting smurfs, account buyers and players whose rating badly mismatches their skill, and had tested account-sharing detection. The system was poorly calibrated and was deranking ordinary support players. Bans were not on the table — the stated goal was to reduce the impact on fair matches.
- There is no publicly confirmed case of a ban specifically for boosting in Deadlock. Bans are for cheats and third-party software.
How we keep your account safe in Piloted mode
Every measure below follows from the same logic: the things Valve has tested for are anomalies — a login from the wrong country, an account playing while its owner is visibly elsewhere, a rating curve that jumps like nobody's does. Remove the anomalies and a Piloted order looks like an ordinary player on an ordinary evening.
- Sign-in from your region. The booster plays through a VPN of your country, so the login looks the same as your usual one.
- Appear-offline mode in Steam: friends do not see the account playing at odd hours.
- Manual play only. No cheats, scripts or third-party software of any kind — that is the one thing Deadlock bans for with certainty.
- A natural pace. Jumping five ranks in a day looks like an anomaly to a system built to spot rating-versus-skill mismatches.
- Steam Guard stays on: the booster signs in via a QR code that you approve in the Steam app. They never learn your password.
- After the order, end all sessions in Steam Guard settings ("Sign out on all devices").
What happens if something goes wrong anyway
Until an order is confirmed, you can open a dispute inside it: support reviews the chat and the progress and settles the matter, up to a full refund. If price is part of your decision, the full USD breakdown of every mode is in our boosting cost guide.
Boosting without account sharing
In Duo mode you play yourself, in a party with a booster. Steam's rules are not broken and the account never leaves your hands.
